The Vow - from the Constitution of the Order of the Holy Cross

The vow taken by members of the Order at final profession will be a vow of Stability, Conversion to the Monastic Way of Life, and Obedience, in the Order of the Holy Cross. Stability is a commitment to the common life, prayer and work of the community of brethren of the Order of the Holy Cross. Conversion to the monastic way of life is the undertaking of the traditional monastic ascetical practices as lived out in the Order, including especially community of ownership and celibate chastity. Obedience is a commitment to obey the lawful authority of the Order as set forth in the Rule and other official formularies of the Order, as this authority is properly exercised by the Superior and those to whom it is committed.
